Chief Operating Officer (COO)

Location: Phoenix, AZ

Position Overview

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing all operational functions of a growing scientific manufacturing and distribution organization. This executive will partner closely with the CEO and executive leadership team to scale operations, improve profitability, and ensure operational excellence across manufacturing, supply chain, service, and global distribution.

The ideal candidate brings a strong background in  scientific or technical manufacturing capital equipment servicing , and  international trade , with proven experience managing complex operations, P&L ownership, and cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and hands-on leadership across manufacturing, supply chain, distribution, service, and operations
  • Own and manage full  P&L responsibility , including budgeting, forecasting, cost controls, and margin optimization
  • Lead operational scaling initiatives to support growth in domestic and international markets
  • Oversee  scientific manufacturing processes , quality systems, and regulatory compliance
  • Direct capital equipment installation, maintenance, servicing, and lifecycle management
  • Optimize global supply chain operations, including sourcing, logistics, and inventory management
  • Ensure compliance with  import/export regulations , tariffs, customs, and international trade requirements
  • Develop and execute strategies to mitigate tariff exposure and global supply chain risk
  • Implement KPIs, operational dashboards, and performance metrics to drive accountability
  • Build, mentor, and lead high-performing operations, engineering, and service teams
  • Collaborate with sales, R&D, and finance to align operational capabilities with business objectives
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies preferred)

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in Engineering, Science, Operations, or Business preferred
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in  scientific manufacturing, industrial manufacturing, or technical distribution
  • Demonstrated success managing  capital equipment operations and service organizations
  • Proven  P&L ownership experience within a manufacturing or distribution environment
  • Strong working knowledge of  tariffs, import/export compliance, and international trade regulations
  • Experience operating in global supply chains and multi-country distribution networks
  • Ability to scale operations within a growth-oriented or PE-backed environment
  • Data-driven, execution-focused leader with strong financial and operational acumen
  • Experience with ERP systems and operational reporting tools
  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization
