Director (AI) Materia

We are looking for a Director (AI) to join our team. This individual will manage and provide technical support to the technical engineering team across multiple initiatives and develop new approaches to solve somewhat ambiguous problems identified across the software development lifecycle. The role may also manage budget for projects, programs, or products within the practice.

About the Role

In this opportunity as a Director (AI), you will:

  • Develop and execute a long-term technology strategy aligned with the organizations goals, preparing the team for scalable growth.
  • Lead the adoption of advanced engineering practices and processes to foster innovation and efficiency across product development teams.
  • Mentor and develop team members with a focus on building a pipeline of future leaders and preparing the team for organizational scaling.
  • Facilitate strategic partnerships with crossfunctional leaders to ensure technology solutions meet broader business objectives.
  • Drive the technical roadmap, prioritizing initiatives that enhance product value and customer satisfaction while also managing technical debt effectively.
  • Propose accurate estimations for project timelines and resource requirements.
  • Hire and manage a team of skilled software developers.
  • Collaborate with crossfunctional teams to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Effectively delegate tasks and responsibilities within the engineering team.

  • Lead multiple crossfunctional project teams.
  • Balance strategic and tactical focus.

Delivery

  • Evaluate new technologies and participate in decisionmaking, accounting for several factors.
  • Apply knowledge of software architecture to manage software development tasks associated with developing, debugging or designing software applications, operating systems and databases according to provided design specifications.
  • Manage building enhancements within an existing software architecture and occasionally suggest improvements to the architecture.

  • Display understanding of the projects value proposition for the customer.
  • Apply critical, nonbiased and databased thinking to help make core directional decisions that move toward the forecasted future.
  • Rank the importance of initiatives to achieve team and business objectives, recognizing not all work is equally important and urgent, and that some work will fall to a backlog for future prioritization.

About You

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in software development.
  • 3+ years in people leadership and product development leadership roles.
  • Ability to elaborate on/demonstrate experience bringing transformations within process improvement and team development.
  • Ability to identify and implement new technologies to improve the product.
  • Experience performing software development with Python.
  • Experience performing software development with AWS cloud development stack.
  • Experience with an Agile development process is required.
  • Experience performing software development with one of the following frontend technologies is preferred but not required: React, Typescript, or Tailwind.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to foster an environment of collaboration and innovation.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, organizational development, and team scaling.

The base compensation range for the role in any of those locations is $177,380 $329,420. This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individuals knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward program which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs.
