Job Description

Overhead Crane Operator

The Overhead Crane Operator responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:

  • Understand the safety of the overhead crane and operate without compromise to those safety systems.
  • Responsible for operating the overhead crane to lift, move, position, and reposition loads. Depresses buttons, lifts levers, and ensures load is safely attached to crane before bringing it down.
  • Observes load hookup and determines safety of load.
  • Manipulates or depresses crane controls, such as pedals, levers, and buttons, to regulate speed and direction of crane and hoist movement according to written, verbal, or signal instructions.
  • Inspects crane for defective parts, fills out daily operator checklist and notifies manager of defects or malfunctions.
  • Must adhere to all safety requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and education requirements:

  • At least one year of overhead crane experience required.
  • Must have positive attitude and ability to take ownership of area. Ability to work with precise limits and standards of accuracy.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Quick to learn and able to adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-directed individual.
  • High school diploma required.

Preferred skills:

  • Manufacturing industry experience required.
  • Forklift experience preferred.
  • Positive attitude, willingness to learn.
  • Strong mechanical abilities.

Physical requirements:

  • Walking, standing, sitting kneeling, stooping (frequently).
  • Lifting, carrying up to 50 pounds (frequently).
  • Temperatures (frequently).

Additional notes:

  • May require overtime with little notice before or after normal work hours or weekends.
